Year End Report 2024
Much of this year was spent acquiring permission to work on the grounds of the cemetery. Since the cemetery is owned by the City of Dallas, we had to enter into a Beautification Agreement with the City before any work on-site could take place. This agreement included agreeing to a specific location within the grounds for our work. While we were establishing City approvals, we were able to conduct the following:
1. Various meetings with City staff to work through Agreement. (12hrs)
2. Staking and fencing work area to halt City maintenance. (2hrs)
3. Created a Beeman Cemetery Place and Project on iNaturalist. (1hr)
4. Completed 2 flora and fauna surveys utilizing a grid system and entering findings into iNaturalist database for nearly 100 confirmed species identifications. (12hrs)
5. Uploaded species identifications to Texas A&M Qualtrics database. (6hrs)
In October, we received City approval for our Beautification Agreement. This agreement will allow us to start removing invasive species in our work area. Next year, we will begin by working with a Master Naturalist to identify the best methods for restoring native species.
