Vision for the Albert Carver Cemetery
Albert Carver purchased land in 1856 and settled here with his family. He traded his horse and saddle for 320 acres of land. He was a noted breeder of Durham cattle. Carver set aside the plot of land for a family cemetery. He donated the land at the Southwest corner of Bruton Rd. and Masters Dr. (where 7-11 is now located). This is the last little piece of land left. The cemetery is located on a busy intersection and has had several hit-and-runs that have damaged the fence. Placing large boulders (in front of the fence) will help protect both the fence and the headstones. We need to raise money to make this happen.
Getting the fence repaired and the boulders placed will add the protection the cemetery needs. The next step on the agenda is to transform the cemetery back to its original prairie land. We want to partner with the community and have events to create awareness about pollination and native plants.
The vision for the future is endless! If I had a magic wand, here are some examples of what the cemetery could look like.
Big boulders can protect the fence and the headstones.
Add solar lighting to some areas
Create pathways to the headstones.
making volunteer days fun for the family:)
placement of trash cans
Fancy hotel for insects
The wall facing the entrance to the Carver shopping center would look great with a mural.
Another sculpture idea
fun faces for the kiddos to look at while they go by
