A New Start

The Constellation of Living Memorials

The Albert Carver Cemetery is a part of the Constellation of Living Memorials.  This project will be transforming the cemetery with native plants and creating a wildlife habitat.  This is a wonderful opportunity for the 2-year program @ the cemetery.  This transformation will be a huge benefit to the community.   We will need help with volunteers and businesses within the community.  We will be hosting community events to help with the program & be having fundraisers to meet the requirements for the grant.  The CLM project will revitalize the cemetery to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

It is a shame that the cemetery is known for its litter & appalling fence issues and not its Dallas history.  In 1985, the cemetery was announced as a Historical Marker.  A rod iron fence was erected at that time.

It sits on a busy intersection and has been the target of many wrecks that have caused a large amount of damage.  The city installed a small guardrail on the corner (after the first wreck). But the  Cemetery needs more protection around the headstones.  The descendants have tried to partner with the city for help but they declined.

There are 28 people buried in the cemetery.  Unfortunately, most headstones are located close to a busy street, and 1 headstone is within a few feet of the sidewalk.  A descendant has already repaired the damage that happened years ago.  The latest wreck went through the fence and mulled over 2 headstones.  Another issue to fix without any help from the city.  Had the barriers been placed, the fence would have been repaired by descendants.  As it still sits today in disrepair, it is a constant eye soar.  We will be working on a way to take matters into our own hands concerning barriers & fence issues.

We are thrilled to participate in the CLM project to revitalize the cemetery and make it more aesthetically pleasing.  Our partnership with the CLM project will take the cemetery's green space and cultivate it into a native plant and wildlife haven for the community to enjoy.

The cemetery is now a nonprofit, 501(c)(3).   We aim to raise money for the CLM project grant & fence repairs.

All of the headstones are located in the corner of the cemetery. We will create pathways around all of the headstones.

Another headstone that was hit.
